2nd leaf apricots baby leaves suddenly wilted...ideas?

Cambium kill doesn’t kill roots- at least not right away. Often roots send up suckers with Myro. The cambium you show is healthy, but may be damage in the trunk. You should see some sign of it, though, even without cutting open.

Yeah, it was healthy at the time of that picture but soon dried up. Actually in the pics I just posted today you can see where I cut in a lot to try to find live cambium in the foreground dug up root (hargrand on pumiselect). It was dead, but then below it you can see where the root sent up a new shoot, which grew like mad to over 2m last summer. We cut it off and dug it up to plant the jujube this spring.

Just to clarify, I’m not looking for advice now on this - the trees are dug up now! Just wanted to follow up with some pictures of the roots of the trees in question.
