Dendrobium Orchid

I’ve been growing a Dendrobium Orchid at home since 2001. It produces an inflorescence every year during our winter. The growth prior to the bloom typically comes from root nodes, but this year I have a spur developing on a stem node

It is called a keiki, it will eventually make roots of its own. Sometimes they can be a nuisance, the nobile dendrobiums will make all keikis instead of flowers if they are not given a dry rest during the winter.

Orchids have a strange morphology. Every node is also a plant. If you allow your orchid keiki to grow out it will (eventually) produce flowers.

They grow roots in air so i took them all off ended with lot of baby plants.

Well I did leave that keiki on and it is now sporting flower spikes. Also at the base of the plant there is another keiki starting on a very old pod and a vigorous shoot coming up from the root mass.
