How much does heading back pears slow bearing?

What type of knife or saw blade do you use to make the kerfs?

I use the same saw I use for all my pruning- a Silky Gomtaro 30mm straight blade holster saw, but any good pruning saw would work. So would a hack saw blade. .

I’ve yet to try a kerf type of cut to train , but it’s something I want to try…I have a couple of good candidates on my pear trees.

Hi Alan! Looking at my pear tree that has several grafts that I added this year. Would you mind clarifying your statement: do you leave your new grafts to grow vertically, so they are as vigorous as possible? Do you then tie the branches off that vertical graft horizontal?

I usually let them grow vertically for a couple of years, but I try not to wait so long that I have to cut hinges in them to get them to bend. However, I often end up having to do that.
