Low genetic diversity of Geneva rootstocks and viruses

Well, my tree was planted last spring and it hasn’t really done as well as my other trees planted at the same time. So, obviously, I havent got any fruit off of it.

But, I have picked up some WC from an area orchard over the last couple of years. I think they are OK, they have a beautiful dark red/purple skin and are pretty firm. The taste is good, with a decent balance of tart and sweet, but not much else going on. It does look to me a bit like a Stayman Winesap.

The newest Cornell rootstock table lists G.935 as virus susceptible.

Good to know. I’ve got Winesap and enterprise so I probably won’t move mine to a better spot yet. I’ll see if it’s worth it when it starts fruiting. Thanks!
