Left Rhode Island and NYC in the fall of 2019 to move to the south of France. I sold my orchard in the states it was small and private, but gave me great pleasure.

I now have a container orchard. Small but a great selection of fruit trees. I have a Reine des Reinettes apple, Pomme Gris du Canada espaliered apple and a Granny Smith espaliered apple and added a new Calville Blanc d’Hiver. Peaches both are white: Grosse Mignonne and Charles Ingouf. Plums: Mirabelle de Nancy and Prunier d’Alsace. Apricots: 2 Rouge de Roussillion. A Montmorency cherry. A Four Seasons lemon, a Satsuma mandarine, a Panache pink lemon, and two ‘Purple Bliss’ finger limes. One black currant and two varieties of strawberries, Garriguettes and Mariguette. One varigated red and white camellia and many herbes. Two fig trees only as they are plentiful here; a Violette de Bordeaux and Longue d’Aout.

During the summer I will grow cherry tomatoes, as my terrace is hot but has no morning sun. The large tomatoes I can buy in the Marché are better than any I can grow (and I have tried for four years!). I grow many herbs as they grow like weeds and are superbe. The past four years have proven excellent for growing my dwarf rootstock fruit trees (or highly pruned fruit trees on taller root stock; to keep them small). I do need a step stool to net them from birds. I am in the stone fruit ‘belt’ of France which makes growing all stone fruit a pleasure.
