10 days after they went into the water

Sanded the round top until seeing whitish light brown layer and not the pointy bottom. Place them in a basin of fresh water and
changing the water daily. Here they are after ten days. Guess what these seeds are?

Nice job,Tony. Will the lotus plants in those two pots have to be dug up to avoid freezing in winter?

@Hillbillyhort, with the bright colors of your friend’s water lilies, I’d think they could glow the the dark !!!

I will fill 1/3 of the pot with mud/clay and fill with water all the way to the top. I will dig up the tubers and store them in the tornado shelter with the figs during Winter months.

Oh my! Those are gorgeous!
I am new on this list and maybe my question has already been asked/answered. I apologize if that is the case. Do you know if I can buy lotus seeds like those anywhere?

You can send a message to @Sophia2017. She grew these lotus and may have some seeds left to sell to you.

And the colors come true to seed? That’s cool! We’re considering adding a pond, but the lilies and lotus are definitely expensive! Starting from seed sounds like a nice way to get started.

Tony,
Your lotus will probably have enough time to bloom in your area. I wonder if they will have enough time for their seeds to mature ( for future propagation)

Sophia is in a warmer zone than us. I grow cannas. Their seeds do not mature in time when it is too cold here. Different plants, I know, but it is something I wonder about.

Ebay has a lot of them. I grow water lilies in my pond (i’ve grown both the tropical and the hardy types). I also have one that has taken over my aquarium but has yet to bloom. I also have a lot of other water plants in my aquariums… I’ve never tried lotus but maybe i will.
