Avalon nectarine was removed from the best or promising cultivars lists. I wonder what caused the removal.

I wouldn’t assume it was a conscious decision. ACN is still carrying it so it must be doing reasonably well as a commercial variety. I can speak from limited experience that it is an excellent quality fruit, especially for being so early.
