The guy who rescued the fruits that were booted out by the Silicon Valley companies. He donated 689 stone fruit cultivars to many of our national repositories, as he has preserved them! He also donated a lot to the California Rare Fruit Growers! God Bless this man and his passion.
I didn’t know the history behind the Arboreum nursery. This explains a lot. Thanks for posting.
Todd is responsible for more than half of the great historical peach cultivars that are available today, he was about the only person saving old peaches in the 80’s. California is the perfect peach preservation spot as the trees can last a lot longer there compared to the east. He saved many of the historical east coast varieties as well since they had made it out to California.
Very inspiring. Thanks for posting.
This is a good reminder why us hobbyists who trade scion wood are important.
Thanks for posting Joe. I linked it on the Home Orchard Society’s Facebook page. I think the Temperate Orchard Conservancy is pulling in some NW native plums from him that are not available elsewhere.
Nice story. I’ve never ordered from Arboreum but will make it a stop on my annual spring order spree.
