Where is a good place to go in February besides Florida? I’ve went to Orlando Florida a few times and Galveston Texas but would like to go to a different place this year. Any suggestions? Last time I picked a lot of fresh citrus just outside Kissimmee and made myself sick on all that fresh fruit and warm weather. I love the cold but it doesn’t love me back so by Feb. I am in need of some warm weather and sunlight.
Cabo, Mazatlan, Merida, Belize.
It depends what you like to do there. Southern Texas is fabulous birding. There are a number of state parks that have blinds with feeders, so the tropical birds come right up to you.
Hawaii…
I liked San Antonio in February.
You can’t beat Hawaii. The only problem is the price tag.
Mexico, much less expensive than Hawaii. Specifically cancun, Isla Mujeres or Cozumel. The last two are two islands off Mexico mainland, a ferry ride away from cancun.
French Quarter of New Orleans. Watch the weather. Sometimes it can get balmy and pleasant down there this time of year, in between cold snaps.
Coffee with chicory. Beignet doughnuts with powdered sugar at Cafe du Monde. Jambalaya shrimp and sausage over rice at the Napoleon House. A walk along the muddy Mississippi. Wild scenes along Bourbon Street. The Hotel Monteleone has the Carousel Bar. Lots of affordable hidden gems down there.
Mardi Gras is coming up at the end of February as well.
That’s what I was going to say, the food from local greasy spoons to Emeril’s restaurants, it’s all good. The best food in the country if you ask me.I really enjoyed the walking tours too. I would not go during Mardi Gras, way too wild for me! You know the southern countryside from New Orleans to Florida is amazing and beautiful. When I was in New Orleans I had to go to Panama City to visit a close cousin. I enjoyed that ride a lot!
Arizona
Yes but he didn’t mention any budget concerns
Sri Lanka…
Cold is good for you. Puts hair on your chest.
I’d go to Chile or Argentina. Should be a lot of ripening stonefruit this time of year?
I know you said besides Florida, but that’s not really fair…you can’t use Orlando and Kissimmee as a measuring stick for the rest of the state…It’s land locked first of all and there are way too many tourists.
Not sure how far you’re looking to go, but the Keys are beautiful…Another good option is the Gulf Coast, near Destin or Cedar Key, very laid back, relaxing and beautiful white sandy beaches.
Jeremy,
I like the Florida climate. The keys have way to many people for me like the parks. I enjoy people sometimes but at other times I want to relax in warm weather without the crowds.
I encourage you in the strongest way possible to consider @Sara_in_philly 's recommendation with one small change: avoid Cancun like the plague! (It’s just a glorified, Americanized, tourist trap IMHO). But she is otherwise correct. That part of Mexico (the Yucatan) is just amazing and very cheap. Its also- so far- been immune to the cartel violence for the most part (Cancun Mayor was involved in it). There are actually quite a bit of farming in the area as you get away from the coast. @Richard mentioned Merida which is also in the Yucatan and has amazing archecture and history and feels more authentic than the southern Coast. There are several orange groves within 2 hours drive of Merida. One of the things I love most about the towns in that whole araa is going to the markets (which are away from tourist areas) and seeing all the amazing fresh fruits for sale. Even in the tourism places like Sara’s Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, you’ll always find these sweet little old ladies who take small plastic bags and fill them with fresh, local fruits that they cut up right in front of you. Not sure if its the heat, my hunger, or the setting and look of it all, but every time I buy a bag of fresh cut fruit from those little ladies (usually for $1 US!!!) I always swear its the best fruit I’ve ever tasted!!!
Puerto Rico should also be on your list. It doesn’t require a passport or the hassle of going through customs, and has countless opportunities to see tropical fruits and coffee growing. Also only about 3-4 hour flight. My own sister lives in Hawaii so I have a free place to stay, but after 4 years I still can’t make myself sit on a plane for 12 hours to get over there!
Bahamas, other Caribbean islands
What about California? I was in the San Diego awhile back, about this time of year and the weather was like the best Spring day in Seattle, around 75 degrees.
We went to Lake Skinner, near Temecula and fished for Stripers and then did some ocean fishing. Brady
Dominican Rep is always sunny and hot this time of year!
