Anyone growing agarita, in Texas or the Southwest? Any first hand growing experiences?

I got some seeds from a visit down to Lampasas here recently. Going to see if I can get them to sprout. The fruit tasted pretty good. Definitely worth growing if you have some gloves to do the harvesting with. I wonder if some of the prickliness of the leaves could be bread out of it, or the fruit size improved. I don’t know much about plant breeding, but for a plant to be decently tasty and yet extremely hardy suggests to me that improvement might be possible.
