Air layering persimmon tree

I have a Fuyu persimmon tree with a branch in the wrong location-- very narrow crotch angle. I was going to prune it away but thought I’d ask the group if it was possible to air layer this branch and have a nice rooted tree.

So, is it possible to air layer a Fuyu persimmon tree? Are there disadvantages to growing one from own root rather than a grafted variety?

Details: Branch is around 3/8" thick and around 18 inches long.

I’ve tried a few times without any success, but I’ve heard of other people having better luck than I did. I guess if you’re going to remove the branch anyway, it can’t hurt to try. Good luck.
