I think I’m going to quit perusing the old GW forum. I may change my mind, but growingfruit.org already has so much activity, there is little reason for me to check the old GW forum.
Not that my postings on GW are that special, but I’ve already started deleting my postings on GW since Houzz took over the site. I only posted on three threads over there since Houzz took over, so not a lot of posts, but growingfruit.org already has enough old “internet friends” I recognize, I’m going “all in” on this site.
Awesome. I’m hoping for good things on this site. I believe that if remains civil and exactly what it should be (a site for posting information, tossing ideas, communication) then I don’t see anything that could possibly go wrong. I think some sites fail due to a failure to understand the purpose. When you have to start getting moderators involved to make this civil is when things start going south.
For me I don’t need to see 40 topics created a day to call this site a success. I just need to see the right people and the right information.
Please don’t delete your old posts from GW. There are jewels in your and other’s old posts at GW and I went in and re-bookmarked a whole bunch of threads there to use as a database.
One of my many weaknesses is that I am somewhat of an idealist. That’s why I vote, even though I know my individual vote doesn’t really matter.
As a protest, I have been removing my posts on GW, since Houzz took over (only three threads). I’ve been allowing enough time for anyone to read them, but have deleted them so far on two threads. I’ve intended to wait long enough (over 24 hrs.) so that anyone who might be interested has a chance to read them, if they are interested.
I value your input greatly. Your responses help a lot of us. I hope you do not delete them. I sometimes google them as references.
I wish you could transfer some of your old posts here such as the one on how to prune peach trees. It is a frequently asked posted by newbies. Your answers with pictures were excellent.
In fact, I wish several experienced contributers could move their post from Gardenweb here. Some of the posts are excellent sources of references.
You really are all in, Olpea. I still check GW and try to inform those I recognize as regulars to check out this site. I have a feeling that Houzz will kick me out soon.
I wish we have a way to tell these"regulars". I do not have their emails. I feel like they are “friends”. They probably will join if they know.
Since you’ve taken the time to offer another forum option, I want to support it. I’m not mad at Houzz or anything. I’m sure they paid good money for the GW site and have a right to do what they want with it. Signing up at growingfruit.org and removing myself from Houzz was just my personal way of “voting” for the forum I’d most like to see successful.
Obviously I’d like this forum to be successful long term, but in the whole scope of things, that has nothing to do with me and little to do with you (since you’ve already done the work to set the forum up to be very user friendly). Nevertheless, whether this forum is successful or eventually dies is irrelevant to the way I chose to exercise my preference between the two forums. In other words, this forum has already lived up to it’s promise, simply by offering a more user friendly alternative. Thank you.

I feel the same way Mamuang. I sent emails to a couple people who are “internet” friends, and they both joined, but I don’t have many emails of folks other than the ones already here.
I wanted to clarify, that unfortunately, older posts you made on GW, cannot be deleted on Houzz. Not that I have such fascinating comments, but still, find it feels uncomfortable to see GW pass all my content for the past 10 years over to Houzz, lock stock and barrel and I cannot delete any of it, including photos. About the only thing you can delete are any comments you’ve made since the change over, that are less than a week old. After seven days, they are a permanent part of Houzz. I’ve been posting and removing any personal content before that first week is up, including photos.
I have a feeling that as time goes by, the threads that develop on this site will contain as much good advice as can be found in the old GW archives. I suppose for now a poster could also refer us to where a particularly germane, informative answer dwells in those archives rather than repeating it here. I’ve printed out a lot of those answers that I valued and they now reside in a binder.
Thanks Appleseed. Actually I deactivated my account over there. So glad you and so many others made it over here. I’m amazed at all the traffic this forum has already generated. It’s getting so I can’t keep up reading all the threads. A good problem IMO.
Also agree w/ Applefan, that if this forum keeps going there’s going to be some great threads over here. Most of the most experienced people are already over here. I wish someone would direct Konrad over here. I haven’t seen him post over here yet.
I am very happy to do all my fruit reading on this one. I didn’t really like the new GW either, and hadn’t been on it much. Olpea let me know about this one by e-mail.
