Right now, pots until i can get my area cleared out for a full on sectioned off gardening area for us humans. I have a TON of bunnies and as much i love them, i don’t like the potential fleas, ticks, and other things they may bring. Partially okay with them running in the yard but don’t really want them around my human areas. Also Chronos is getting old and with the influx of bunnies and deer, he wants to pee on everything so gotta keep him out too. Going to make the animals their own area but before i do that, going to focus on feeding the little one first.
I bought a bunch of garden beds for mine so eventually i want to just set it and forget it for the most part. Been thinking about setting up little rain covers for the strawberry and raspberry patch as well once we get everything up and running. Last year, i didn’t cull the berries off of anything and I’ve noticed the hummingbirds, birds, and wasps don’t eat them after November. Going to start doing that from now on. They produce and grow until about the end of December of this year for me even though nothing tastes good then and the rain caused a lot of issues. Thinking i could prevent a lot of issues if i cut all the flowers and fruit after everything it done with them.
I only grow 1 June bearing and that’s Denali as a test trial for innovation organic here in the PNW. So far, they’re already trying to put out berries with what i would call minimal leaves.
Pineberry, the mislabeled and lost labeled ones, and other 2 fruit per season or less will not be getting their own beds as well as the ones who don’t do as well.
I may have a dedicated bed for seedlings grown since mine are open pollinated and I have what i would call, some great varieties right now.
I did greenhouse strawberries but they didn’t taste as good as summer berries. Plus they took longer to produce due to lack of sunlight and warmth in the winter. Not sure if I’ll attempt them again this year but with a solar generator to power a heat source and extra lighting. And a fan… I’ve found my biggest issue with the greenhouse has been fungal.
I don’t use straw because I’m allergic to it and i don’t like how they feel wet and stuff. I like regular bark mulch but i don’t usually mulch although it may change this year
