Alliums 2027

Today was planting day, this year it’s a sixer of Yellow Spanish onion seedlings and a six bulb pack of California soft neck garlic.

The onion six cell ended up with about two dozen plants in the ground.

One of the garlic bulbs looked a bit nasty so it got tossed, the remaining 5 bulbs filled up most of the rest of this ~5x8 bed. Couple of broccolini and radishes in there as well for now. Not particularly stoked on this garlic variety, would have preferred a hardneck, but today was planting day and this is all the nursery up the road from me had. May supplement with more interesting stuff, we’ll have to see

This will be the second year of alliums at this house, planted about a month earlier than last year so we’ll see how it does. Probably early for most to start the 2027 thread but I don’t trust myself to keep notes and wanted to log it

Me. Haha- I keep looking at my onions and garlic pink my deck and think, boy I need to plant those… but I have not taken out plants that need to move before I can!

Went out to the rich nursery yesterday and found some loose heads of hardneck (at $3 a head )

Tilled and planted some I think German red (didn’t write it down; told myself I’d definitely remember ) in front of the old chicken coop and some music in front of the gate. All at around 4in spacing. The coop soil was rock hard clay so my quick till didn’t go down deep. Mixed in some pay dirt conditioner and we’ll see.

The softneck is well up, took pics but there’s not really anything to see
