Still have a month to go with persimmons…but almost there. I wish I had planted some different varieties of persimmons. Will try for some in '26. They can be iffy in Z6. After Xmas it is 3 or 4 months before the new trees come in. Hoping for potted figs, Euro pears, more peaches and maybe a few retry for plum. Black knot took all my plums out. Maybe if I keep an eye on them, I can nip the black knot in the bud…or at least hope to. Have not had any decent plums for years since I cut all mine down. Plums in the store are inedible garbage. My Green Gage was magnificent!
Always something to look forward to with growing fruit!
I agree. I start to feel listless and it takes a bit to switch gears and fill my in between time with something other than tending to the gardens. Although, it’s nice that things go on auto pilot (requiring really no intervention) around when I need to start constructing Halloween costumes…we cleared the last of the vines off my vegetable garden trellises today, and my son said, “mom, it’s kind of sad. It looks bad.” Because metal raised beds and cattle panels ARE sad without their greenery. But, I’m also ready to put everything to bed for winter and am anxiously awaiting a hard frost for harvesting some lingering things and a deep freeze for checking ‘winterize containers’ off the to do list.
