I have some animal coming into my yard at night, digging little 3-5" deep holes all over, near my fruit trees. I haven’t really cared all that much except they dug so much around a little plum last night that it was leaned over about 45 degrees. I’m assuming whatever it is, is looking for little grubs that we get in our soil. All the digging seems to be near irrigation sources, where I think the grubs hang out under the surface. Although we don’t see them often, I know we have skunks, raccoons and possums in a nearby canyon and it could be one of those. I just don’t know enough about their behavior to determine if it is that or another type of animal. At one point last month, there was so much digging, I assumed a dog had gotten into our yard but that is pretty unlikely. I know for sure it isn’t a gopher, mole, or other underground animal.
Thanks!
There was a group of Raccoons doing that a couple years ago in my backyard and tipping over small potted plants. Then I live trapped them. Brady

Skunks will do it for sure. They will dig for grabs with passion.

I would said skunks or maybe a armadillo.
Raccoons and skunks both will dig for grubs. Coons more so after the snow melts.
I guess they are somewhat beneficial? Getting rid of the grubs?
Skunks actually eat a lot of bugs. I try to leave them alone as long as they are not trying to spray all the time. I have one that is pretty tame that lives under my house and keeps the grubs and bugs away from my trees.

Whats great are Phoebes. They are a brown and white bird that eat bugs. I have mates that come back every year and they fly around my orchard and sit on the fence post snatching every moth and beetle they possibly can. They eat lots of J B’s! They have a nest under my eave on top of the down spout. It’s like they are guarding my trees.

Good to know, we have a few of those that hang out in the back yard.
