After lurking forever…Intro to my own little PNW (Portland) orchard, spread across two properties. In total, approximately 100+ trees in the ground. Many more in pots.
Quite a few multi-hole plantings (primarily peach/nectarine), with other spacing fluctuating between experimental, high intensity, and max of 6/7ft.
Trees range in age from new this year to about 7 years old. Majority of apples are entering year 3. A few older trees (COP, King David, Golden Russet, Liberty, and Northern Spy) are 4+ years old. Flavor grenade and Elephant Heart are entering year 5. Santa Rosa is entering year 7 (w/Howard’s Miracle graft).
Apart from two step-over trees on m27, all other m27s were removed from the ground over the last 2 years. M111 has been my preference for in ground apple planting. Managed via limb bending and summer pruning.
I’ve been slowly adding William’s Pride grafts to many of the trees. I have one standalone WP (m111) that is entering year 2. Love the apple and need more early varieties.
I will attempt to add pictures of various varieties over the coming weeks as things leaf out more.

My favorite fruit over the last few years has been either flavor grenade or the spice z. Flavor grenade is around 9 feet tall now, living near my oldest Santa Rosa tree that is a few feet taller. Graft of flavor supreme is entering year 4 with no fruit as of yet. Lots of flowers again this year. Splash is a similar height as flavor grenade.
