I have a friend that wants to buy a standard sized apple tree for his yard. I know there are online nurseries that sell apple tree varieties on Antonovka rootstocks.
I have a few nurseries that I know of that carry apple trees on that rootstock. I am trying to give him some actual catalogs ( not online only) to look through. If it is an online only type nursery let me know as well. I can print the information off for him. He is not a big online looking type of person.
If you know of any online nurseries that have their apple trees on Antonovka rootstocks please let me know. I can pass that information on to him and I will also request their catalog.
I know St. Lawrence Nursery, Fedco, and Burnt Ridge have some apple trees available on that rootstock type. Those are the only ones I know for sure.
I appreciate the help.
They use Malus Dolgo rootstock.
Perfect Circle farm grafts on Antanovka.
You need to check out https://waldenheightsnursery.com/
They have a lot of stuff Antonovka. Trees on it. Rootstock of it. Various kinds of scions versions of Antonovka. And even seeds of it.
It is the most Antonovka centric place I’ve seen.
St. Lawrence Nursery apple trees are on Antonovka this year and next. They are now grafting to Siberian crab due to Antonovka being hard to source.
There are places that will do a custom graft if there’s a specific variety not available- you’d probably wait a year though to get it since most places don’t have antonovka on hand.
Your friend could look at a many catalogs and to pick the Scion and then have it grafted.
Also, I saw a lot on bud 118 when I looked- It’s almost standard size and perhaps something to consider.
Yes. Many places offer P.18 and it is half Antonovka. Fedco and Cummin I think offers all sorts of trees on it.
It is a 100% full size tree. Trees grafted on Dolgo are 105% of standard size. But hard to find too.
I’m unaware of Fedco using P18?
burnt ridge sells antonovka rootstock and grafts some of their apples on it too. ah you said that.
Raintree has some
It is Cummins.
And St Lawrence has a really nice printed catalog.
I enjoy St.Lawrence Nursery’s catalog.
Just a quick question, how tall does the Siberian Crab get? I would image it would be a lot shorter than an Antonovka rootstock tree.
Siberian crabs grow taller but less wide than antonovka on their own roots.
So the Siberian crab trees can get 25-30’ tall? I did not know they could get that tall. I will look into that for him.
He seems to wants a standard sized Red Delicious apple tree. It is hard to find a Red Delicious apple grated to the Antonovka rootstock.
