As to the rootstock?
Track down the wholesaler. Look for labels on the pot or ask the HD manager.
Yes, check all over the blackpot for a wholesaler sticker. Check the trunk for a plastic tag. If nothing email the wholesaler Vigoro
Well considering the tag says this will grow to 12-14’ tall, that should be a pretty good clue. I don’t (can’t) grow peaches so I can’t tell you which rootstocks would give you that height, but I would think some of the peach growers here could…
Interesting, the pot has a vigoro label also it’s essentially screened onto the pot or painted or whatever, no other markings…
I’ve had pretty good luck contacting wholesalers and finding out what root stocks they use.
Speaking of guesses, I thought this was a little strange.
I mean, we all know what donnut peaches are and with it being white its probably a Saturn, but why not just put what variety it is on the tag? Why put a generic name like "white donut "? ANd what is the #5? It was in a 2 gal pot, so its not 5 gallon.
Maybe there is an actual peach called White donut #5 but I doubt it. ???
Citation maybe?
are there other dwarfing peach rootstocks?
I gotta plead to a whole lot of ignorance re: peaches, this tree was just like 7’ tall already with a few dozen flowers and some already dropped, leaving swollen pre-peach ovules. I was trying to get a peach to bear this year for my father-in-law so I snatched it, hoping the blossoms got some insect love in TN or wherever it came from, since they arrived at Home Depot very recently. (like a day or three ago)
The bare root plants in the Southwest area HD’s come from pacific groves – they use Siberian C (a seedling roostock) for the Semi Dwarf peaches. The potted trees usually come from La Verne Nursery. Usually the tag on the pot will give you a hint as to the wholesaler/grower.
