Any members grow the Buckeye Beauty apple? Sounds like a good old heirloom variety.
Anyone? Gonna add it and report back. Might be a while though ![]()
I was looking at getting it as well - Hocking Hills has it
I went to Horne Creek hoping to purchase some rare apples to taste but they were sold out.
There was a about 100 varieties on display. No opportunity to taste but I could sniff, and the Buckeye Beauty was by far the most aromatic apple both in intensity and desirability. It was twice as potent as the Winesap.
If anyone has a fruiting tree, I sure would like to read a report.
Horne Creek Description
Fruit medium size or above, roundish conical; skin bright yellow occasionally blushed with red. Flesh pale yellow, crisp, juicy, mild subacid. This apple has an excellent flavor that often tastes very similar to a pineapple. Very susceptible to fungal diseases. Ripe October and keeps well.

Interesting. 2 primarily red apples gave rise to 1 that’s completely yellow? I have 2 growing that I grafted from scion obtained from Derek Mills at Hocking Hills. Strong grower, hopefully I’ll be able to taste one in the near future.
You won’t be disappointed by the aroma. It is absolutely amazing.
I’m glad to hear yours are doing well. It seems they’re prone to fungal issues here in the east. I’m seriously considering rolling the dice despite its issues.
Would you happen to be growing the Green River or Virginia Sweet?
Yes sir, I grow both, Virginia Sweet is on M111 and has been slow to bear, hopefully this spring it will bloom. Green River I have 2 or 3 limb grafts I did this past spring. Believe it or not one made a nice full size apple just a couple months after grafting. I wasn’t too concerned about the graft so I let it do its thing. That apple was great. Green River may be flying under the radar for sure. Other apples that knocked my socks off this season were Brogan, Virginia Limbertwig, Red Limbertwig, and Senator.
