how about giant Russian crab? just ordered a stick from queener farms with a kerr scion and a few others. its not a fresh eating apple but ive never seen any red apple as red as this one. they claim it bleeds red when cut. going to use it in cider, sauce and apple butter. kerr is also known for this use as well.

I have Kerr grafted, but only from this spring, plus a couple of Kerr seedlings. I’ll have to look at giant Russian - not that I need more ideas. I’ve ordered just over twenty apple varieties for next spring, with a few more to source.

Huh. I am trying Atha this next season. A slightly later, larger and longer keeper then YT.

I have a Early Mcintosh… a cross of (Mc and YT) that ripens mid June to mid July here in southern middle TN.

It is quite tart if picked with a little green still on the apple (makes great fried apples that way)… or if you let them hang I until all green is gone and the red turns more purpleish… still a bit tart but quite sweet too. The texture varies from quite crisp in the early stage… to soft like red delicious in the latter stage.

It is not a long store apple.

Picked June 22

Picked July 12

Picked last fruit July 22.
