Frankincense is accumulated by scarring the Boswellia carterii, sacra, papyrifera, and frereana trees. The bark is scarred much like a rubber tree and the glue like sap is gathered periodically. Myrh is a topic for another time. We know they were both burned as insense and used in a variety of other products for thousands of years.
