I’ve read about a, for me, new apple yesterday, Baya Marisa. It’s supposed to be a red fleshed apple with high sugar content. Anyone tried it? Experiences? Yields, diseases, taste? It’s on my must have-list but always interesting to hear what others have experienced.
It the second red flesh I acquired about 7 years ago. I lost it, got another and lost it.
I have several red fleshed, but never did get to eat one of those Baya Marisa yet. A shiny pretty apple, for sure.
It looks really beautiful, sad that you haven’t had chance to taste. How come you lost them?
The taste is great! Less acid than grany smith and sweet with berry flavors.
Sounds great. Ordered one right away.
Partly I blame the rootstock…but most red fleshed apple trees leaf out and bloom before traditional cultivars of apples. And half inch leaves and then a night in the teens…and the plant itself ‘croaked’.
I do have Redfield and some others that are also super early, but so far have only lost the crop in one year, not the tree. Many of the red fleshed apples actually seem to be tougher than normal…still early bloomers (just like peaches) aren’t going to have a crop every year .
