I’m very interested in this apple, anyone experience with this apple ? It’s a Dutch apple called “Swaar” (the Dutch word for heavy is zwaar), which is pretty good to eat and produces pretty heavy apples.
I got some sticks to graft, also heard good report.
There is only one place I know that has that variety available to purchase as a grafted tree. I was looking at it to purchase as well. I am like you, I do not know anyone that has one to give me their advice as to how it tastes and what uses it may have. I also wonder how long the apples are good for i.e., a few weeks ,a few months, only days. Seems to me it is a good cooking apple, from what I remember reading.
I have had a few of them. Some were fantastic, very aromatic, and some were just average. I have had the variety for years but its one of those tough luck ones, first fireblight then deer munched back then I moved it etc etc.
I grafted it here last year, and hope to be able to sample it next season. The advice that I’ve read is to let it soften after picking like a pear, which sounds interesting and worth a try.
