Last time we had Shell it had a very mildly sweet pear like taste with a decent amount of juice. Really good after a few hours in the ice box while camping.

First “May Queen” to ripen and drop. Does it look like what you know as this cultivar?

It’s amazing the amount of variation in what people have shared as it:

Wow. That is super early. Is that not an October apple?

Yeah, seems like it.. So probably a mislabel.. My “Not May Queen” tree I suppose. Which is fine, it tasted good

Great selection @luisport , my 3yr scrumptious did not try and flower this year but got to try two last year. Looking forward to it’s return. Seemed unbothered by pests and fungus.

A couple Summer Banana apples not quite ready picked 10 days ago. This tree was not sprayed since I wasn’t expecting it to bear due to herbicide drift.

Significant rain has fallen recently and the ones tasted yesterday seemed a bit flat. I’m not sure if the 11th hour week long soakers has affected the flavor. When the flavor is weak, the peel flavor which isn’t great becomes imposing. It’s certainly not neutral like the Williams Pride.

The rains have triggered a serious Glomerella outbreak and this tree is very susceptible to Glomerella. Since it’s an earlier apple, the fruit is generally not affected. The Red dots mentioned in some descriptions is not an apple feature, but the rots.

Gipsy King this year, very hopeful that this makes it to the finish line. It’s neighbour Pendragon has suffered a bit with a fungal infection but this seems untouched.
