Article on Zaiger

I haven’t been super up to date on on the topics on the forum lately. I hope this hasn’t been posted already, but I thought this short article on Ziager worth reading. Btw, my favorite Zaiger variety (and currently my only Zaiger peach variety I’m growing) is Spring Snow. Highly recommended imo here so far.

One other peach article, which probably doesn’t deserve a topic is on the Clemson breeding program. It’s interesting the largest grower in SC doesn’t feel like high chill peaches are necessarily the answer for SC weather. I disagree for our weather here in the Midwest. The higher chill the better.

I’m a little surprised with the terminology used by the SC grower regarding cold tolerance. Of course the only cold they have to worry about is spring cold not winter cold. It’s the same here. I’ve never seen peaches hurt by mid winter cold. It’s always the spring freezes. Describing the spring freeze issue as cold tolerance is not something I’ve heard much.
