Last year I made a really nice 5-in-1 Asian pear off an existing tree…the grafts took off like gangbusters…
only to crap out when I moved the tree. It turned black, starting at the tip of a few branches and marching back towards the trunk like cancer.
I finally cut it like 3" above ground, and let suckers come up from the rootstock. I then selected 2 only to survive, and they fattened up nicely, but since I am thinking about trees for here (and also my brother’s property up north in Z4) I was wondering if folks here could suggest Asian pears with hardiness into Zone 4, and also pears with fireblight resistance. It may have been transplant shock too but it looked like fire blight anyway
Thanks!
