My pears are fully shaded by the leaves. That may be why the red is so faint. The photos are also the shade side of the pear.

Asian/hybrids usually are ready to eat when the lift-and-tilt test easily removes them from the tree.
My first pear came off of the tree today. It weighed in at 13.5 Brix. The flavor was pleasantly sweet with a mild acidity and slight butter flavor with a table sugar aftertaste. The texture was juicy and like a firm European pear, but not quite as fine as Bosc or Seckel.
This has not been the best fruit growing season. We have had high heat, humidity, and rainfall. Most of the high rainfall happened in bursts, over short periods of time. A lot of exploded tomatoes this year. With such a small tree and adverse weather, I consider 13.5 Brix a win.
