So my Fuji was in its 3rd leaf. 8’ tall. Set dozens of apples, I let it keep a dozen. One of my fastest growing Apple trees.
Then 2 weeks ago it started changing from dark green leaves to light green. Finally to just brown. A week into the process I gave it some iron. I think it’s about dead now.
From Isons. I believe it’s m111 but Isons isn’t totally clear about that, I’ve emailed them. I’ve given it 3 doses of Nitrogen this year, the last one a month before the leaves started changing color. It’s in a low area between yards and there’s standing water for a few hours when it rains, but we haven’t had a decent rain for a month. I use a moisture meter so I don’t think I overwatered. PH is 8. Tree didn’t die of fireblight or CAR. Could be Cotton Root Rot, fits the symptoms. Texas A&M results showed soil was low on Nitrogen and Phosphorous, I added both. Tree trunk looks ok.
I’d like to do a post Morten autopsie, I’m curious. Maybe I’ll dig up the roots, see what’s there.
Yeah, symptoms fit CRR perfectly…which isn’t good for the rest of my trees…if I’m lucky I’ll find borers, I can fight them; but I’m afraid you might be right
JMO, but that doesn’t look like a lot of roots to me, but you did say it produced apples for you. I wonder about giving it 3 doses of N in one year, could too much be toxic? What type of fertilizer did you use?
I cut a lot of the roots with my loper in order to get the tree out. Would of been better to carefully remove everything but I was hoping to see whatever was wrong on a few roots. I used 10-20-0 first this year, then 21-0-0 twice… I hosed the tree off after digging it up but didn’t scrub the tree. Right half of the gulley was wetter than I’d expected 12" down, kinda mucky; left half was moist, seemed perfect.,
