My Bavay green plum is opening in such an odd way. Has anyone else had this problem or situation with a euro plum? I have been watching it closely for the last month and we all love to see the flowers form. However, each blossom is opening at its own time. One blossom is still in tight blossom while others are out and yet others are at petal fall. What gives? I have never seen this type of blooming before. Yes, we have had a great deal of rain and nights in the forties, but many of the other trees, when they open, they, pretty much open!
I’ve been growing English plums for a few years and noticed this flowering characteristic on Cambridge Gage.
I have only one graft which is about 2-3 ft tall. It had flowered. Some are setting fruit and others were at petal fall.
I’ll pay more attention to it next year. My other Euro plums don’t do like what you described.
I know mine don’t either. I will take a picture tomorrow!
I didn’t pay a close attention to my Bavay tree during bloom, but didn’t notice anything unusual. I planted the tree in 2016, and this is the first year it will produce a serious crop, I even had to thin some tight clusters.
Here is a picture if the branches.! sorry top pic is Caville Blanc. image|690x920
The bottom two are right.
