Beam me up, Scotty

Perusing the NPGS apple acquisitions list, I ran across a variety I had not noticed before. Did you know there was a James Kirk apple? It was donated to the Geneva facility from England in 1949, so it predates Star Trek. The variety is only semi-firm, browns quickly, is rather acid, but it is extra juicy, so it might be better for cider than fresh eating. I think I’ll give it a pass, but Star Trek fans, the deadline for ordering summer bud Wood is July 15.
