Black currant, anyone want a seed project?

I got like 5 small packets of open-pollenated black currant seed from various Russian strains. It started w me trying to get belaruskaya or whatever i just misspelled, seeking a sweeter fresh eating black. I had great intentions to trial the seeds but it looks doubtful .

Anyone more ambitious? Happy to send them out…

I would help but I’m trying my own golden currant seeds as I would like more of this species of currant. I’m maxed out with seedlings this year else I would try it. BTW I’m fairly sure currants need 60 days of chill to sprout.

sending them to a poster, offer closed.

Not sure about cold/how much, I DID seed a few here and they sprouted, but they were seeded in late feb in outdoor pots, so they did get their chilling…

I bet the seedlings will be good. Your thread made me look at mine. I have seed trays in the garage and pots outside with seeds. I put the trays outside Just in case they start growing in the dark.

I’ve got a fine flat of 21 gooseberry seedlings. They all seem to closely resemble the mother plant…so far.

You mean currant?

No, I said gooseberries, I haven’t tried currants. But, I would, if you still have seeds you’d like to share.
