I only just noticed this large wound on my 2nd year old Ume apricot. I went outside just now to cut it down thinking it was black knot, but I saw a white larvae in the knot. Is this injury black knot or borers? Or both? I’ve yet to have black knot in my orchard (two years old only) but it’s in my area. And can this tree be saved or is it doomed regardless? I need to know if this can be saved or to put an order in for a replacement tree… It’s oozing sap. It’s 3-4" above the graft. I prefer not to use chemicals unless there is no other option. G

I would wait on the advice from others. I think Scott removes the gunk and larva and then coats the trunk with neem oil.
