I have never quite seen a fruit season like our current situation. Apples, yes; pears yes, first time in ten years. Sour cherries yes; Plums almost zero. What is amazing about my plum trees is the amount of black knot on them this year. I have never seen it quite so bad. I sprayed all of the necessary copper and dormant sprays this past spring and kept up with my reg. spray sched. incl. triaz. a sticker and monterey FF. I have used immunox as well. Black knot is still appearing as of yesterday when I had to cut a large branch off of my Bavay and more branches from one Mirabelle. The plums have almost all dropped. There might be three italian plums and four mirabelles left. I’m giving them to the birds this year. No need to net afterall.
My apples on the other hand, are huge for this time of year. They are larger than a ping pong ball and doing well. The berries are good too, however nothing is ripe but strawberries. We have had little to no rain. We have humidity, or fog at times but it has been quite clear with no rain to speak of. Is the weather the cause of the black knot returning?
