Bloom but no pollen

My filberts have been planted two years and I wasn’t expecting blooms this spring. York is blooming but none of them have any pollen tags. Ouch this hurts. Think I will look over my local area and see if I can have a few branches with pollen if any is located. Not overly optimistic for a nut crop this season.

Do you live near an arboretum or park where hazelnuts are planted? You might be able to gather some pollen there. If not, it wouldn’t hurt to check out local nurseries or even hardware stores for Harry’s walking stick or some other such ornamental variety. A home depot about a half an hour away usually has a few Harry’s walking stick plants for sale every year when they sell their potted trees in the spring. Lastly, im sure there is at least one person on the forum who could mail you some catkins if you put out a request.

Thanks for the generous offer. I located a nearby home (a few miles away) with three hazels in their yard. I plan to stop and ask for a few catkins. This should allow me to hand pollinate.
