I planted this tree last year. It is growing next to five other bush cherry varieties that all look happy. This year, when it awoke from dormancy, the leaves were noticeably yellow. The bush has gotten sadder and sadder with time. Any idea what could be wrong?
That’s one of the newer varieties. Too bad it isn’t making it.
Did you plant it in the fall of 2024 or the spring of 2024? Did it have any growth or was it dormant-> into the ground-> winter-> now looks bad in spring?
It seems like it will be a goner if you leave it there and do nothing. If it were me I might pot it up and put in a greenhouse or bring it inside and try to nurse it back.
Has it been super hot? Is it planted under an overhang?
Did it have nice roots if you can remember?
Lots of rain/no rain ?
I’d guess it needs water, was not hardened off properly, has a nitrogen deficiency, or some combination of the above with a frost.
Something went wrong under the woodchips… you will have to pull them back and inspect roots
Not sure how you keep year old woodchips devoid of all life… but maybe that has something to do with it… my woodchips are a mecca for grasses, weeds, tree seedlings and just about everything.
Do you or someone spray weed killer on the woodchips?
Could be not enough sun as well.
Im going to guess, seeing as it is against brick and is in a concrete planter, that it dryed out, didn’t establish good enough roots for the amount of branches it has.
