Anyone have experience growing and/or tasting this pear? It’s listed as a Max Red Bartlett and Comice cross, which sounds delicious for people as well as fireblight.
The local nursery is carrying this pear from DWN and it keeps staring at me every time I go there. It’s like those old “open, open” Mervyn’s commercials except it’s saying “buy me, buy me.”
I planted California in January 2020. It didn’t do much last year–of the 4 pear varieties I planted at the same time (Warren, Seckel, Bartlett, California), it grew the least and did not bloom at all. So this year it is still a little tiny tree, but it did bloom and set on a lot of fruit. That’s my only experience with it so far.
But, like you, I thought it sounded delicious. So I’m hoping it does well.
