Can I prune rootstock roots to fit the pot after bench grafting?

I received 2 B9 root stock with some roots 1.5-2 '. Can I trim them so they of the same size that majority of the roots and feet the pot?

I’m confused by the measurement.
google didn’t help. Do you mean 2 inch? or 2 foot?

2 inch seems quite short. 2 foot seems extremely long for a rootstock.

I regularly prune roots off of rootstocks. Sometimes because they are all bunched up on the same side. (i want a spread out rootsystem going all directions)

for tissue culture rootstocks they often have roots that circle the rootstock stem or other roots. Because they where grown in small round trays. I also prune those.

If not seen obvious negative effects from those root pruning’s. But it was usually under 40% of the roots that i pruned away.

So if your only pruning them a bit. It should be fine. If your pruning away like 70% i would be careful.

Are the rootstocks already leafed out? Because that matters to. Root pruning a dormant rootstock is way different than one that has leaves.

Dam, that is some roots on that rootstock. Do you have a picture?
Does it have other shorter side roots? or is most of the root-mass in those super long roots?

If it has plenty of roots and is not leafed out. I think your fine shortening or pruning away some of those long roots.

But if those long roots are practically all of the rootmass i would shorten them only as bit or not at all. And just bend them round in the pot.

All the roots are hair style. Most of them reasonable 8 inches long, but couple were 1.5 and 2 feet , one long per plant. No, I didn’t make picture, already grafted and planted. I pruned them to match most of the roots. I am planning on growing them in pots at least till fall, so bending the roots in the pot didn’t seem right.
