i heat up metal buckets of sand and stick them out with the plants when they get cold . my dad taught me that in alaska . i hope all your plants make it .
I’m still waiting for a lot of my borderline stuff to wake up, most seems green under the bark but we’ll see if there’s bud damage.
Surprisingly, my Saanichton and Jenny fuzzy kiwi came thru perfectly fine.
Looks like all my persimmons (Nikita’s Gift, Saijo, and Chinebuli) pulled thru with little/no damage.
Poms seem dead to the ground.
Some tea plants came thru pretty much unharmed, others took quite a beating. One might be dead? Dave’s Fave seems the toughest, but it is a few feet closer to a tree line which might have been enough of a windbreak.
This is great to know. What were the lowest temps this winter? Thx.
Which tea plants didn’t do well? I’m curious because I’m trying some too.
The Sochi tea plants took a beating and may have lost some branches, but they are slightly more exposed to wind than Dave’s Fave. These are pretty young plants, so keep that in mind if you’re making decisions off of my experience.
The seedling from EL lost its leaves but seems like it’s regrowing well. That one is in a different spot and fairly sheltered from wind.
