Current progress

So far most of my grafted trees from this year are going strong. Everything got a coating of surround about 1.5 weeks ago. I’ve noticed a few yellow leaves on my more established trees. Any idea how to fix this problem?

I don’t see any fruits in the photos, why would you put surround on the trees if there are no fruits to protect? Surround coat can facilitate mites infestation since it hinders predator insects.

I thought it was used to protect against pests/sunburn?

Surround is used against pests that attack the fruit (curculio in particular). Against sunburn, just paint the trunk with 50/50 white latex paint/water mixture. In Zone 4, the leaves need as much sun as they can get.

As I said above, mites could use the surround protection to multiply on the leaves, but they are too small to see with the naked eye. You might want to use a magnifying glass to check whether there are any mites on the leaves.

If most leaves are fine don’t worry about a few yellows. Tree wants to drop them for whatever reason. it’s okay.
