David pear

First harvest from a David Pear tree, this is one of the apostle series from Saskatchewan breeding program and is a ussuriensis x Bartlet cross. 5 th leaf tree on ussuriensis roots makes it one of the more precocious pears I am growing. Vigorous tree, quite unbothered by foliar diseases, pests. Brix measured 13, most of the sweetness is overwhelmed by the astringent cotton mouth sensation, making it a real spitter. I planted it for perry, so I am quite pleased with it nevertheless, I think it will bring some nice richness to future perry blends.

That’s some real moonshining stuff right there.

Nice! What rootstock did you grow it on? I planted a couple David trees on OHxF 333 this spring in one of our orchards from scion you provided.

Glad the scion did well for, you, hope you get to taste the magic soon too! Mine is on ussuriensis rootstock.
Another one of the pears I purchased from St Lawrence nursery as part of the “wildlife and wine” package also has fruit on it, I believe it is John. Pyriform, rather than round. I will review them when they ripen.
