Do apple buds grow through a coat of Doc Farwell's Grafting Compound?

Do apple buds grow through a light coat of Doc Farwell’s Grafting Compound??? I’ve searched this forum and internet but don’t see an answer. This is the rare occasion when I’m asking before I do it. Smile.

Can’t speak to the Doc Farwell’s, but I had apple buds push through a layer of vinyl electric tape and a heavy coating of tangle foot sealer…

I’ve been using it over the Paraffin tape for 2 years now and haven’t seen it happen. This is why I always leave at least 1 bud exposed, but Purvis told me to spray the whole thing with Wilt Stop.

I had a bud push two 2 layers of rubber splicing tape last year. Posted a pic of it here somewhere.

I think buds could push through concrete

Seriously, Doc Farwells is nothing for buds. I sometimes have several layers of parafilm plus a thick blob of Docs on top and the buds still come through. This year every single bud I am grafting has a thick layer of Docs on it, but no parafilm.

Thanks Scott! Exactly the answer I was searching for and could not find anywhere. Will use this info tomorrow when I tackle an old pear tree and an old apple tree.

Thanks for the question, I was looking too!
