Does anyone know what this is?

I just moved into a new house in Bangor, ME. The tree next to the house has these growing on it. Does anyone know what it is? I have dogs and don’t want them to get sick if they eat something they shouldn’t. ![image|690x920](upload://97unjlaMjKWjL26eFBnP2HWtbJ1

What do they look like sliced open (lengthwise and crosswise) and at what stage of growth is it?

I have no idea what stage it’s at. I moved in today and that’s what I found. My silverware is still packed so I tried to cut it with a plastic knife and found it too hard to get it cut lol. When I find a real knife, I’ll halve it and see what I’ve got.

Sounds good, and congratulations on your new home.

The reason I think it might be helpful to open it up is because I can’t tell whether it’s a nut or a fruit! I suspect it’s some kind of flowering crab, but I’d hate to tell you it’s OK and be wrong. We’d best wait for somebody who knows what they’re talking about before you let your dogs into them.

Thank you. I definitely won’t let them close until I know what it is. My dogs eat anything lol.

Hi, A photo of the tree or bush and its leaves would help id. Hope you enjoy your new plants whatever they are! Sue

Look like crab apples to me, too.

The arborist said it’s an ornamental crab apple. I also found three crabapple trees on my property.

Crabapples are very popular in Maine…everyone has at least 1 or 2 on their property… at least from what I saw 2weeks ago, and from friends.
