My peach tree just did the same thing as your apple tree. Because of this post I I dug down with my hand by the trunk and its full of those same bugs. I think its going to die. I’m not sure if I have any time to let urine ferment to poor around the tree. I hope those bugs don’t spread!

Yes actually I did solve it. The tree died becuase the nursery that grew it left a piece of plastic on the roots that girdled them. Its explained in one of the posts above.
