Clinal rootstocks in my experience don’t seem to have the traditional “drip line” root distribution, especially if you’re talking about apples. I have dug up 10 year old apple trees on various Malling rootstocks, and found that most of the feeder roots stayed within a few feet of the trunk. I feel this is somewhat different for seedling rootstock.
