Dying Pomegranate Help

Could it be from nutrient burn?

Bottom view of roots.

After I loosened them.

Much larger pot and removed all flowers and poms but one.

So I have this rare Black Dwarf Emperor Pomegranate I was going to bonsai and it’s very healthy until recently after the weather started heating up. The roots look ok and the soil is pretty well draining. I put in a larger pot in the shade with little morning sun for now.

Anybody got any insights or suggestions?

Well I’ll bump this since it was a Friday. although I doubt many grow poms in small containers here.

My guess is that the sun baked the roots in that small container

Good guess thanks. This year I did keep it near the avocados which get covered with a 50% shade cloth at 94°. Last year this little tree was out in full sun 110° temps and did fine. If it lives and that’s the case it won’t be an issue now the pot I put it in is very thick all the way down.

I think that the pot was too shallow and small, especially for having flowers. A pomegranate bush with flowers or fruit on it requires way more water, than one without those things, also as the bushes get bigger the same thing happens.

Thanks Alan. Yes, I was pretty surprised to see the root and plant growth so strong after just one more season from up pot. They’re supposed to grow very slow like a foot in 10 years or something. I can’t recall exactly. But I do know some people sell Nana as the Emperor which isn’t the same Pom.

This one is still looking pretty bad I might just chop most of the upper tree off which I don’t want to do.

I’m going with a water issue. It’s hard to get the water right with a small pot. A jumbo pot would solve that.

I hope you’re right about that! Hate to lose this tree. Thanks Robert

Well it looks like you guys might have been right about the roots or watering idk but I, pleased to say the little tree is coming back nice and fast. I’m surprised really.
