I have two brown selects (thought it died so replaced it but it didn’t now I have two) but neither have grown or produced. Hopefully next year they will have fully rebounded and I can get a few fruits.
Tried Xie Shan yesterday because it had some give despite not being fully orange. Sadly it was just flat, no tanginess or sweetness, and not a fully developed texture. It’s been warm so I was surprised it lacked flavor. I am going to wait until December to taste a Miho Wase. Hopefully they have decent flavor by then.
Miho Wase has really taken off this year, I’m expecting a great crop next season (this year is the first year it’s beared a crop).
Miho Wase
Xie Shan Fruit
Cooler weather is supposed to help them get sweeter I’ve heard.
Tonight will be the first drop into the 30’s. It has been 40’s and 50’s for low temps.
Really healthy looking Miho Wase. My Okitsu Wase really grew nicely this year and I hope to get my first fruits next year myself.
Keep us updated!
How did your December Xie Shan and miho wase taste? I’m still going back and forth over which to get: Xie Shan or Okitsu wase, and then sometimes I throw miho wase into the mix.
They were not good quality unfortunately. I am unsure if this is due to their late flowering, age, or heat units. My potted satsuma tasted the best, but it did have an early start with a greenhouse. Last year the best was brown select, the smallest inground satsuma I have. However, it didn’t produce this year. I am glad it didn’t because it instead focused on growth. Considering it was the first time Miho Wase produced, I will anticipate improvement this year and the next. Once the weather warms up I will post the result of this horrible winter. I don’t think there will be much damage with the microclimate they have. In fact, I have a small Meiwa kumquat that weathered the entire winter storm without protection.
