Early snow disaster

Last year in southern Wisconsin we were still harvesting tomatoes in November. We had tented them with one layer of plastic earlier, but we did not get a killing frost until Nov. Over a month later than average. This year, we had late hard frosts (late May, early June) that caused a lot of problems. Welcome to climate change, increasing instability, extended drought in some places, heavier & more precipitation in others, etc.

An update…the snow has long since melted.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it could be that day - it was just shocking. Most of the trees went back upright again. I lost a few branches, but no trees. Could have been worse!

And I’m still growing tomatoes in my hoophouse…it looks like I might get 4-5 weeks longer than normal.
