Harrow delight have been early this year. They are always early but even this is a week or two earlier than normal

They look pretty ripe! Harrow delight will go from almost ripe to rotten in about 2 seconds this time of year.

High temps and plenty of sunshine along with very little rain will push fruit to ripe early.
Re early ripening, Bella di Giugno is one of the earlier varieties. I have a list of about 7 or 8 that are earlier still. A couple of them ripen in early June.

Really makes me wish we had some pears right now. What are your most reliable? My pears (moonglow, maxine, and bartlett) bloom super early, frail to frost, and if the cold doesn’t get them fireblight thins the flowers very hard (not running down the branches, just flowers).

Plant more pears from all the flowering groups. Some years my early groups like douglas, kieffer, Duchess etc get wiped out. Some years My medium flowering groups get wiped out also but then my later flowering group like harrow sweet etc. Come through for me. If I told you your life depended on hitting an animal in the dark with one shot, would you not use a heavy loaded bullet? You would not use a .22 you would chose a shotgun. Gives you more odds, and it’s the same thing. In the case of pears you are shooting in the dark hoping to hit something you want. The odds are not in your favor if you put all your effort in a few hunches. You need to take the shotgun approach. Stack things in your favor and have your pears bloom , ripen , and harvest at different times. Some years only early pears make it and form pears before the freeze. Some years only my late ones. This year I have some medium and late pears. My Maxine, abate fetel, harrow delight, harrow sweet, many Asians etc. All made it. The freezes this year were real bad.

I think my earliest is Amire Joannet Pear or harrow delight . I really don’t find Anyone growing June Sugar pear? But I thought at one time I grew it. Might be a fireblight victim or it may not be around after a top working benge. Sometimes I do that and find the tree underneath is still there. I think i remember some Mid June pears I had at one point. We are just talking 2 weeks difference and some years are different.

Seems like I always get some Kieffer pears every year. Even if the other pears trees have no pears. Like this year. Three frost/freezes in a row while they were all blooming. No pears on the other two variety of pears BUT I do have some Kieffer pears on that tree. Not a whole lot but enough to enjoy.
