Euro pear fruitlet problem

I had this problem last year, too. When I thinned the fruit a week or two ago I saw a few like this, but only left apparently undamaged fruitlet. Now a decent amount are like this. Black marks and dessicated fruit that are rotten inside. I presume this is a bug, anyone know? My next door Asian pears are untouched by whatever this is, I only have seen it on Moonglow.

My pears that dropped late appeared to be from earlier frost/low temps. Your example looks a little different but that is my best guess as to the problem.

Kelby if it is what i think you have pear midge. I get it here down the road from you. To confirm feel some if the other fruitlets for softness or look for odd shape. Then break it open and look for the little larvae shown in picture below. It may be too late to find larva still in. You can read about pear midge. They lay eggs before clusters even open. So before bloom you need to spray clusters with something , i use malathion in hanheld sprayer. They hit my honeysweet but not asians.

Birds seem to know when fruit are infected and start sampling.

Seems like that’s it, thanks! I guess it’s too late to do anything now, dang.
